Are these actually any good? They look a bit flimsy?

I drive a saloon car so my only option is this or a roof rack, although I has one which is two bars and it's far more secure than just the one bar ones. I wouldn't trust them to be honest...

I have the one in the link and it's rock solid when it's on. It clamps over the whole towball with just a little cut out at the bottom, so even if it didnt grip the ball 100%, it couldnt flop down.
I was nervous when I got it, but it really does work. The ones which have a plate you mount behind the ball were not an option for me as I have a detatchable type tow ball.
For what it's worth, you can use a boot mounted rack on a saloon, this is what I used to use, but the Thule towball one is much more secure.

These look similar to the ones you can get for a motorbike too! Saw a bloke with the motorbike one on a new civic, he said he has never had an issue and it is strong as hell!

Few guys on seatcupra.net have them with no problems, its the only way of carrying a bike on an ibiza really as roof bars had problems of creasing the roof. I did quite alot of reading about them a few weeks ago and didnt read any problems

Looking for a cycle carrier for mine. Hate the boot mounted ones, Havn't got a towbar so fitting one would cost a fortune so will be going for the roof bars.
Trying to get hold of a decent set of roof bars for the Lexus, All I can find is the paddy hopkirk ones that cost a fortune!

Never had a bike carrier but i can vouch for Thule.
Used to use Thule bars for my kayak and they were bombproof.

I need to get myself some kind of bike transportation solution. Pain in the arse getting it in the Fiesta and taking both wheels off.
Thought about the Halfords/Mont Blanc clip on high but not keen on rear mounted

Exactly what I want. Just towbars are not cheap. No matter what car, especially if you can't fit yourself.

Towbars aren't cheap, IIRC the cheapest towbar (fitted, inc electrics) is about £200 for a focus. Most cars are £250/300.
Nothing stopping you from buying a used bar from ebay, or a new old stock one, fitting it yourself and paying a pro to do the electrics. Not that its hard to do them, depends on the car.

Used it properly on the weekend, I'm well impressed! Also discovered its got a hole to put a padlock through to help prevent it from being nicked if you leave it on the tow bar
