take 1 plastic bottle fill it with a quater of sparkling water shake = bottle expands which i understand however... If i then empty it and do the same with still water the bottle does the opposite and shrinks (cant think of the proper word), yet if i fill it first time with still water its fine doesnt do anythin and stays the same shape.

Why does it shrink if i fill it with sparkling first?

Water will be combining with the carbon dioxide = reduction in gas?

I'm not that great on science, but I'm guessing with carbonated drinks (sparkling water, coke, etc.) if you shake them and there is nowhere for the gas to escape then whatever is holding it in will simply expand until the point of explosion.

As for the contraction in your second experiment, is because you haven't rinsed the sparkling water out of the bottle and also (I'm assuming) because there isn't enough pressure in the bottle?
