One of our PC's at work is an oldish system running XP and its running very slow and is constantly freezing. I am considering re-installing an OS to wipe it clean and start fresh but am open to other options (performance boosters etc)
I think it's just in need of a decent clean up. Can anyone recommend some software or programs?

But if you keep formatting it and reisntalling the OS then that is 'clearing it up'. These little 'performance booster' programs are bollocks too.

I havent done anything to it yet so was considering reinstalling Windows to free any bugs with the operation of it

A re-install is always the best way of making it run better as you get rid of all the shit that's been installed/left over from other programs etc.
Download the portable versions of these programs to a USB stick and then boot into safe mode and log in using the profile that's normally used if you have to log in.
Run these programs in order:
CCleaner - use this to remove dead registry settings, clear temporary Windows/Internet files, disable un-needed start-up programs.
SuperAntiSpyware - sometimes malware may be making your PC slow. If it does find malware, you should also do a scan with Malwarebytes afterwards in case SAS can't find all of the malware, you will need to install this program as it can't be run on a USB stick (it can be installed in Safe Mode).
Once you've got rid of any malware do a full scan using both programs to check it hasn't replicated itself anywhere. If it has, you'll probably need to do a Google search for removal instructions on the specific malware you've found.
Defraggler - defrag the hard drive.
After you've done all of the above, make sure all the latest Windows updates have been installed.
All the programs above are free BTW.

Just do a full format and reinstall, much easier and guaranteed freshness

One of the terms of my company's insurance policy is that any claim will be invalid if the cause of the problem was down to counterfeit software that was running here (i.e. cause = virus for example).

also what ram has it got in? i have got vitsa on mine and it only had 1gb of ram, i added another 2gb and its a lot better now
