i would say not essential but would help, you could run the business but i wouldnt say you could do the mechanics side unless you had the experience but just never took the qualifications

i mean i am trying to get an apprenticeship to get qualified as i have experience and can change engines n that but am struggling to find one as im 22

VRQ level 2 (similar to NVQ) is easy and is only 3/4 days a week at college for a year if that helps. not very hands on though

mate of mine has a mechanics garage and he has no qualifications. he has over 20 years experience and is very very good at what he does.

having a qualification on paper doesnt mean your a decent mechanic

if you know what you are doing and want to do your own business i wouldnt worry about qualifications , quality of work and experience will count for more.
