My mums looking at getting a 57 plate Vectra Elite.

Is there any common problems with these? She has been told its chain driven, so there is no cam belt to worry about, is this right?

I know its not too old, but would be nice to have a 'heads up' as such.

Bushes,snapped springs,drop links,timing chain.

And if its a 2.2 Direct then the high pressure fuel pump is an issue.

Best one to get is a 150 tdci. i had one and it was brilliant. No real issues with one of that age. most are rep mobiles that have been up and down motorways. Just look for a good service history.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

What goes wrong with the fuel pump? It is the 2.2 litre she is looking at. Is it an expensive fix?

Also how often do the chains need changing?

The seals inside them fuck up.They run a Siemens pump from factory, but the Continental pump is the updated version which dosn't go wrong.

New pump is about £300 from Ebay.

Why is she after an Elite anyway??

Chains are supposed to last the lifetime of the car (which is quoted as 100k).

The Z22YH runs some updated parts so its not so much of an issue for snapping like the older Z22SE, but it is advised to change it for piece of mind.

Bushes, snapped springs are still an issue regardless. The 150 CDTi also has problems with the swirl flaps in the inlet manifold too.

I will mention the SRI to her and see what she thinks.

Just looked at the options on them and they have most stuff as standard.
