been a while since ive been on hear, i assume its the same old place where anything goes???

anyway im looking at selling the evo 8 for an audi s3

What are the common problems and things to look out for?

Coil packs and Mass air flow meters are common but will be obvious when you drive it.

Make sure the dual mass flywheel isn't noisy.

No majorly common things that go wrong so just check the obvious, odd colour smoke, clutch slip etc..

Check where the cambelt history is up to.

There is loads of info on audi-sport.net, or there used to be. Not been on for a while but there was a good buyers guide.

I get around 24 on average, but I barely use it and barely go on motorways so its all just short journeys. People can average high 20's I believe but I've never had that kind of number with the kind of driving I do.

I average around 32 in mine but I do the opposite to Joe and do all motorway.

Thats doing about 80 driving to and from work, hit the fun pedal and it rapidly drops

IIRC they also came in 210 form.Possibly as you say pre-face.

Remaps bump up the power quite well from what I've heard.

Rear diff (Not what they call it!) has a odd way to change the oil (and filter) and sometimes they have never been changed which isn't ideal.

Also seem to have a problem with leaky turbos, usually spraying the back of the block/underside of the car in oil.

Crash damage is a good one as most have seen the wrong side of a hedge, as long as the repair is good its no worry.

I love them and would deffo own one, They handle well, go well and the seats are lush. Brother went from a E36 M3 to a Y plate S3 and he loves it more than the M3.

Also watch out for common golf / a3 platform niggles - especially at higher mileages..

Worn wishbone bushes
Broken rear springs
knackered anti roll bars and bushes
worn top mounts

If it feels sloppy to drive they are probably goosed

It's called a haldex unit s easiest way to see if oil has been changes original filter is metal and replacements are plastic and most people disconnect them if rear diff is fucked
Service history plays a big part in price with these and recaro seats wear badly
A do quite a bit of work on these and tt's and are pretty reliable cars if reliable
