Gauge, or more precisely AWG (American Wiring Gauge) is a measurement of cable size. 0 Being the biggest (yes, i know you can get bigger but for most uses 0 is biggest). 4 AWG is approx 21.14mm^2 CSA.

I've done this earlier in the year...

I used 2AWG cable instead of 4AWG i'd picked up originally - much, much more substantial to cope with starting current draw;

Used battery terminals I got in Halfords;

Made an earthing point in the Boot for the Battery Neg;

Routed the cable through the car using an existing bulkhead hole for penetration to the cabin next to the pollen filter area, and also cut some of my own holes for easier routing - secured using P-Clips and Grommets;

Made an earth point for the original Negatives under the bonnet;

Bolted a CF Plate in place of the original battery, then fitted a Power Distribution Block designed for ICE Installs to connect the live and the original positive cables;

Works a treat, but need to sort a Circuit Breaker or similar for the Live Cable incase of any problems in the future - been like this for 6 months now without issue though

Go to a scrap yard, find a BMW, and use that cable

You want a fuse that is slighty below/the same as the amp the cable is rated to, It is just for that reason, So if the cable gets shorted out it blows, and also if the engine suddenly puts loads of drain on the cable it popps the fuse rather than melting the cable.
