Poetic justice that Bale, like Giggs before him, would vastly enhance any chances England would have of winning any tournament

Barry and Milner are also not 'squad fillers' considering Barry is first pick and Milner has 20 caps already.

State the obvious.

Everyone knows we don't have a team of starting 11 world class players.

Under good management, a decent set-up and passion, they play well together though. Don't know if you could say the same about other teams with a squad full of world class players though..? Justsayin

playing well and not qualifying for tournaments isn't enough though, not for a side that refuses to be classed as "minnows"

We've played well/(OK) for the last two games. Obviously not good enough. Like is said earlier, new manager, new set-up. Montenegro was the first game where we've had a full team. We'll just have to see what happens against Switzerland and Bulgaria.

Have a read of this if you like..

You can still sense the arrogance

Name the last decent team England beat in a competitive match? They shouldn't be anywhere near the top 10 never mind above fucking Brazil FFS.

In the last 2 years from 8 competitive matches;

Drew with Switzerland
Drew with Montenegro
Humped off Germany
Drew with Algeria
Drew with USA

That's a record that the tabloids in Scotland would be calling for the managers head never mind the 4th best side in the world.

Come on Paul. Please don't tell me you are actually taking those rankings seriously we all know they may as well be pulled out of a hat. I don't think any England fan is saying we are the 4th best team in the worked ffs

I don't think some people are getting where the annoyance has come from. Yes, you should beat Wales, but come on, you've not really beaten anyone of note since god knows when, so anything is possible. To say you expect a win with no injuries or yellows and to take it easy is laughable. To continue from what Paul said; with the value of that squad, what was the last good team you defeated to merit such self importance? And you're right JJ, you shouldn't even be in single digits in the world

I know someone will come back with Scotland are pish... Aye, we are. But we still try to back our squad, instead of constantly slating it for underachieving even though you haven't achieved fuckall in nearly 50 years

Barry isnt first pick at all- Cappellos first choice midfiled is wilshire, parker and lampard.... with young, walcott and rooney up ahead, or maybe young, rooney and bent.

Please dont compare Bale and giggs

Bale wouldnt be in our first team ahead of young or cole on the left wing....certainly not if your picking it on club league form over the last few games, or the last couple of seasons....the same as he wouldnt be in Man us first team. A good 6 months and a couple of wonder goals doesnt make you a world beater im afraid.

Ashley Young sep 2010-sep 2011 ..... 9 goals,15 assists
Theo Walcott sep 2010-sep 2011 ..... 10 goals, 8 assists
Van Der Vaart sep 2010-sep2011...... 13 goals, 9 assists
Frank Lampard sep 2010-sep2011..... 11 goals, 6 assists
Garath Bale sep 2010-sep 2011 ....... 7 goals, 3 assists

I think you'll find I was one of the folk on here which stated clearly that Bale was being over rated based on 2 games against Maicon

He is quality however and the Bale at Spurs is much better than the Young at Villa, he has kicked on massively already since joining Man U right enough.

He hadnt played for England since 2006 before Capello, and only had three caps ...in 2011 he has made 4 appearances

Not many - but thats because capello didnt change to 4.3.3 untill the wales away game earlier this year ... if wilshire, lampard and parker are fit they are first choice ... they look like the best centre mid we have had since the mid 90s

Parker hasnt played as many games as he should of for england .... but has been behind Barry, Lampard, Hargrieves, Scholes, Gerrard for much of his career .... but last year he was the best holding deep lying playmaker in the league, and player of the year - so you have to consider him first choice in that spot. Im sure he would have played wednesday but he already has a yellow and we didnt want him suspended for the last game
