It's basically like following someone on Twitter, you can now subscribe to people on Facebook (without being their friend) and see their statuses that are set to public. You can also comment on them if they allow...

For example, if you go to my page and click Subscribe you will see my public updates...

Because if you don't want someone on your list you can just allow people to subscribe, like theres people from CS who try adding me all the time that I don't know and don't want on my list, but now they can subscribe and I can chose what statuses I wish to make public

It's pretty cool, makes Twitter useless now IMO

I use Twitter to post little blog posts for people to read if they wanna follow me that I don't want on my FB. If people can now follow me on FB and I chose what I want to make public or not then I no longer need Twitter

still have a purpose but certainly makes it less unique, same with google + and what face book have now done with the sharing options

Yes, this definitely makes Twitter useless now. Just like Facebook Places made Foursquare useless, just like Facebook Deals mad Groupon useless, Just like Photos on Facebook made Flickr useless, e.t.c.
