just picked upa newphone which needs activating, i want to jailbreak it straight away. if i connect to itunes will it update with the latest software that i wont be able to jb or what? should i download a certain software version to put on as i activate it or can that not be done?

You could hacktivate, but no it won't update if you activate it, unless you tell it to.
