2 questions..
1 - what do people seal gearboxes to the block with?
iv always had a slow leak, changed/topped up the fluid 3 times in just over 7 month now. at first i thought it was due to the bottom bolt was missing but iv put one in, checked their all tight...
2 - what's the recommended fluid to use
the stuff iv been using is a bit too thick (halfrauds 80W/90)
its x16xel with f15 i think
any help is much appreciated

I got ep80w90 oil for my f16 (not a clue what that means) if that helps .

basically its the thickness of the liquid or something. but cheers 
is it hard to select a gear when its cold at all??

80/90 is gear box oil and is fine to use, every corsa iv had has always been a bit dodgy selecting gear when cold.
and sealing gearbox to the block is going to do sod all difference as the oil is in the actual gearbox not the bell housing where your clutch is

80w/90 seems a bit too thick tbh and yeah i realise that now, sorry, just i haven't ever done much with gearboxes before. cant understand were the leaks coming from. think it may be the drive shaft seal but its still damp above it
