Its that last day on the way home having some fun that means i have to fill up that night.

The trip computer says it can do more but i wont be able to make it to work the next day on what i have left.

The best i got out my old supercharged Cooper S was 44 mpg, so i get more power and better MPG out of this one

i just have a 15-20 miles blast through B-roads, no traffic lights, no roundabouts, only a few junctions to give way.

Probably average just under 60mph as am sure the journey only take as many minutes as miles

You will see better mpg in the winter as the air is more dense. Fact.

Half through stuff on that list can be.sorted by correctly preparing your car.

Ignore the bottom bit, the temp alone at the top

doesn't have sat nav, mwg hates it instantly.

with regards to switching your engine off at traffic lights. it must be a good idea as most new cars do this nowadays automatically.

but i did read somewhere that switching your engine off and back on uses more petrol then just leaving it to idle.

obviously depending on how long it is being turned off against left idling. I moved one car length in 10minutes on the way in this morning, I can't help but think turning the car off in that situation would save fuel

and the fact you look like a bellend turning your car on and off every 5 minutes.

Not really, that's the reason I didn't buy the 1.3.

I don't even reset the trip computer/counter/check my MPG these day.

I get better MPG in the summer than in the winter, fact. Due to the time it takes for the car to warm up in the morning probably. Like I can be arsed to cover my radiator in the winter

My Dads' freelander kills the engine automatically when stopped at lights. Apparently (from reading the manual) you only need to be stopped for four seconds to make it worth killing the engine.

I only drive 7 miles to work, and two miles of that are navigating traffic lights and residential estates, so not much fun to be had - and still terrible economy due to all that stopping and starting!

the things is, stop start is good as it's done automatically and not by human interference (except putting it into neutral/handbrake up) but you should be doing that naturally anyway.

if you stop and start your car at every set of traffic lights it will end up driving you mad or you'll forget to turn it back on and look a cock.
