Me and a mate have just decided to go to Amsterdam in a fortnight. Return flights for £40!
I've been before and stayed in an apartment in the Bulldog Hotel which was really nice, right in the heart of the Red Light District, and the Flying Pog Hostel, which was very cheap lol.
This time we're looking for a private room but nothing too fancy or costly, and if not in the Red Light District as close as possible to it.
Anybody have any recommendations?

6 of us stayed in an appartment in the square closest to the Red Light District (2 mins away, there's a mini castle in said "square"). It was above a restaurant called Gustos. I'll find a link on google maps later.
We went over there without accomdation and got some when we was over there from the information/tourist places on the way down to the SQUARE (soon as you come out the train station)

I stayed in a hotel in the south part of the city last year, can't remember the name at the moment but the room had an en-suite seperated from the main room by a glazed screen which was open at the top. The glazed screen was clear along the top edge and bottom with an obscured section across the middle. Had to agree with other half to put the TV on loud when the other wanted a shit, could still see their legs dangling through the bottom part of the glass and it still stunk

Do you mean Dam Square?
and is Gustos the Argentinian Steakhouse place, just off Dam Square on the way to the Red Light District

Was actually pretty sick. Think we paid 35 a night, plus it had a good view, a fridge, close to everything and most importantly smoking .

not the one I'm thinking of.
I've stayed in the Raddison and Krasnapolsky but only been to Amsterdam for special occasions so always stopped somewhere decent

Acostar was pretty good for the £££, only 15min walk from red light. Was for my stag do so barely slept in the hotel mind.

Yeah was 35 eur a night each (6 of us), probably the best location as it was close to everything.
Room was a bit dodgy, would stay there again though, saying that you only sleep there so not really a problem!
edit: >> click << Google maps link
On the right is the "hotel", if you keep going forward you'll see the weird castle I mentioned earlier, just behind that is a supermarket for cheap food (snacking in room!) and beer (pint bottles of Heineken are about 80cent)

I stayed at dodgy looking place outside of the station. The bed was shit, but it was for only a weekend.
Has anyone ever had Barney rubble, from Barney's breakfast bar? It's got to be the strongest stuff I've smoked. The bloke even said be careful with it.
