Re the maximum torque issue.
Is it not 320lb/ft?? Like the F20 gearbox is rated at 200lb/ft and the F28 is 280lb/ft etc and so on.
The above gearboxes have been proved to cope with well over the quoted recommended maximum torque input.

Some excellent info there guys and again thanks so much for those who shared it with me, certainly a bit wiser now !! to be honest kept being advised that the vxr had some major issues with reagrds reliablty etc and its not until I read what I have from the vast majority off what has been writen above that I have decided its not going to be my next car !!
the megane- now interesting so many say its a great car as for years and years have been advised to avoid anything manufactured by this lot and that has been by friends and family with them admittdly not this particular sports model.
lastly- for the poster above who mentioned best to remove the dreamscience remap- are they that bad a tuner or is it purely down to the car not being one off the best cars in terms off reliablty to have its mapped changed ??

The F20 has coped well. Most probably have over 100k on them and still get used today on LET conversion. Yes they have a limit on how they are treated and how much power is going through them, but i would say they were a more reliable box than the M32. You wouldn't see an F20 shit its pants at 23k.
Whats the standard torque output from an Astra VXR?? Must be around 236lb/ft surely.

I had an F20 with my LET purely down to cost ndavailibility at the time. Comparing an F20 to an M32 is a bit weird though as thats like comparing a knife to a fork?
Renault is reliable. They suffer few issues other than being a bit plasticky and expensive tyres and brakes

The r26 trophy in grey would be my choice if I was looking at them.

Not really.
Its a comparison of 2 Vauxhall gearboxes past and present.
An even better comparison could be the F28 against the M32. Both 6 speed.

Not at all, is the box Vauxhall mated with the engine, they got it fairly right with XE/F20 and as a result you don't often hear of them failing even though a lot people upgrade the power.
Conversely the M32 is well known for failing even in standard cars at lower mileages. Some of the problems are also down to power upgrades but it's certainly a worthy comparison, M32 as a box is not as fit for purpose as F20 was.

The F20 was used nearly two decades ago. The M32 is used now. The F20 isn't available on the Astra Vxr? Or am I missing something?

In short, Vauxhall got it right with the F series boxes of the 90's, why can't they have got it right with the M32.

I would never buy a mapped car, always better off to start standard and if you
want it modded then you get it mapped. Thats just me though, they respond really really well to maps
as in standard form they just deliver the whole power in a massive lump. I have already had a re-con box fitted. See between the astra vxr, megane 225 and focus st I would take any of them but I love my vxr. Have you looked at mazda 3 mps? or mk1 focus rs?

Mazda 3 MPS in standard form beats all those cars. But I'd have a MK1 RS, although they are not quite in the same league as the other choices due to the fact it's alot older, but I really have a love for them at the moment.

Because it's not a vauxhall box they buy them from a different manufacturer the same m32 can be found in other make cars
