I used a hack saw blade on mine and gently went over the damaged threads.
Half an hour later it was fine and the castle nut went on without any tight spots.

I've done this before on CV joint threads and shick absorber threads.

the is such a thing called a thread chaser but fiddly and awkward to use ...........try the hacksaw method ive done it before but not on m20 fine threads failing that new cv joint as they split from the shaft i think
