Does heating it help or not.

Essentially i am trying to get the gear knob off of my car. undone the locking nut and then the knob is just has a m10 thread that screws onto the stick. tried mole grips and some rubber but its properly on

I usually soak in in WD40 and leave for a bit, Softens it up a little

Heat is your friend.
Heat is the official solution to thread lock.
Though I find it never usually makes much difference to undoing summit, as in the threadlock.

im kind of scared to apply too much man on the gear assembly haha looks like it will be the only way. ust dont want to knacker this one getting it off and not be able to get the new one on :-[

Is this on the Civic?

Not sure if its possible but on the Vauxhall ones you can remove the stick at the base and grip that in a vice, gives you a more firm base upon which to swing.

You'll need to make glow to burn off the thread lock. Sure your turning it the correct way? You'll need to turn the lock nut clockwise, and the knob anti.

oh my attempt with a hair dryer pointless just burnt me hand haha
yep checked the thread on the new un and i am going the right way.
Not too easy to get these linkages out as its all behind the dash on the civics. no idea why they have locked it on seeing as thwy uae a locking nut :-\
