Thats the only time u can see how much you are beaten buy, when its not a full increment, however, its impossible to tell any other time

You're not wrong but you're also not in a position to call anyone a name for suggesting otherwise, because it is true in a lot of cases.

Particularly as we were talking about being beaten by pennies, in every case of those you would see.

I've done you a worked example so you can see.

The other guy can see the final price, £60.02, his bid was £60 but there was no one bidding against him so it sat at £50 until my snipe.

He lost by pennies.

His bid was 60.02..

It cant go 60, then 60.02 unless thats the maximum bid, it would have to go 61 (or whatever the bid increment size is)

Not really, you said you never know, when in fact sometimes you do.

In situations where you wouldn't know because the proxy is above the final price plus a further bid increment, you wouldn't be beaten by pennies, as was Alan's original post.

That prop shaft had a proxy of 60 from the other bidder but it was sat at 50 because that was the minimum bid and no one else was involved. I sniped at 60.02 which beat his bid but not by a full increment.
