A broken car that you need transporting or a genuine breakdown? I know AA said 14 days when I signed up but when their driver recovered me on the 14th day of my policy (for a genuine breakdown) he said if it's clearly genuine, ie. stranded somewhere then they would cover it from the start of the policy but if it's parked outside a house looking like it hasn't been driven recently then it's clearly not just broke down so they'll charge you or leave it.

When I joined the call centre said I was covered from that moment, can't see you having to wait 14 days your covered from the moment you join.

Exactly you buy a contract they wouldn't.be able to charge for it, the 24 hours is literally just the time for the system to update etc

I thought it was straight away? Insurance is the same nowadays, when I bought my insurance I was insured straight away and I'm sure it's the same for the AA as you get your membership number emailed to you

rac are 24hours, you can get callouts within that 24hours but you get roadside only which is a tow of 10miles or place of safety

When I broke down in Birmingham I found an AA van at the services, he rang through for me and turned out my membership hadn't been renewed despite having a brand new card and everything, managed to renew it and get recovered there and then.

Thought it was the cambelt that arms fitted 2 weeks ago, turns out the pin on the alternator had pushed in and was hitting the spinning part of the alternator making a racket!
