Was day dreaming on the drive home last night, has anyone ever dropped a diesel into a small 2 seater
My thinking is that if you were able to put a 150bhp 1.6 diesel into an elise/vx220 size car, not only would you benefit from the reduced weight but also the handling ability if set up right. Or would it just be far more hassle than its worth
Think if someone managed to mass produce that it would hit a very big market ? £15 per year road tax, good looking, wouldn't be sluggish and dirt cheap to run would make it very appealing.

Plenty of small diesels. No need for a small diesel sports car the characteristics of the engine don't suit the way the car should be driven

body weight not engine weight.1.6hdi DS4 for example is 1290kg, an elise is 725kg. The diesel engine will be heavier however not 500kg heavier.

Yeah but the car itself is light that's not really a comparison at all. Proper sports car with a diesel engine you'd be changing gear ever second.

If you got some actual suitable ratio's imo it'd be a good idea.
I was recently thinking about building a pug 1.9 powered chevette lol as my mate wrecked his 205 with one in (150bhp) .
May still do it one day lol.

Its a good idea but imo if you can afford to buy one of them cars, running them and saving £200 a year on tax isn't really going to matter.

Rumours are circulating that Alfa Romeo are going to be bringing out a RWD 2 seater diesel in the not too distant future. They have just teamed up with Mazda
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/9284482/Mazda-and-Alfa-Romeo-to-develop-new-roadster.html
General thoughts are the Mazda version will stick to traditional 4 pot petrol engine while the Alfa will be avaliable in a v6 petrol form and a possible diesel option . I cant wait to see what they come up with, Mazda's handling characteristics with Alfa styling sounds like a perfect combo.

There was a Mustang at Billing last year that had a Ford F series diesel in it. Certainly looked good.....
