Is the 3.0 TDV6 the same as the engine in the 3.0 Q7s?
How much worse will the V10 be on fuel?
We'll use it a lot for towing so having the extra grunt for a small sacrifice in fuel economy would be ok, but if its horrendous then

Not much help, but I drove one from Llandudno to Newcastle and back, and used £200 of fuel. About 400 miles I think.
Based on that, it's a good 50p a mile. I'd get pissed off with that, but not in the same financial situation as you guys.

The V10's DRINK diesel and you've got 10 injectors to replace when they fuck up.

Yes, in essence
V6 does 25mpg, V10 23mpg bearing in mind that's not when towing, the V10 is probably going to be better when towing!

Just looked at the price.
I'd avoid it

do it proper, get a V10. it will be slightly better on fuel when towing than the v6 if you really need a reason to justify it

Thirsty thirsty thirsty.
Very rarely will you see MPG higher than 20. Can range from 320-400 miles to a full 100 litre tank.
Remapped V6 is ever so slightly better on juice than the V10 and just as quick(ish).
Remapped V10 has enough torque to do whatever you want and is more than capable in a drag race (if that's your thing).
Expensive when things go wrong. Annoying when things go wrong. V10 uses 2 batteries and needs both of them to start properly. Electrics can be a nightmare.
Engine has to be lifted up/out for some jobs ie. alternator, steering pump etc.
Tbh, I don't know of many 4x4s that offer a real life decent MPG. They're so heavy, they require fuel.
Personally, I've never towed anything, but I don't doubt the Treg's capabilities. It will seriously tow anything

Does it have to be a Toureg? A 06+ ML280 CDi or even a X5 3.0D is much better on the old go juice.
