And is sold off/split up by administrators-can you buy any software licenses that they may have?

One of our suppliers is being wound up and I want my own legal copy of the software we use at work, I thought it might be s much cheaper option than buying my own license directly

Everything gets sold off at auctions Rich. I used to go to Oldham Auctions to buy fucked up businesses stock for pennies

No key or dongle with Solidworks 2011 onwards, it's machine specific and even if you own the license, without the support package, it's difficult to transfer to a different machine. I guess making an offer on the PC is stack is the best bet?
