My 1995 Cavalier SRi x20xev has done around 30,000 miles since the timing belt was last changed, does this mean it needs done now?

Sweet. Have been googling but haven't found a definitive answer.

When I bought a 1985 Nova Saloon with 50k it was the first thing I changed. The mechanic said it was the original part, but he could have been mistaken, and its not worth taking any risks.
