Clutch rattle, could be a DMF needed.

make sure the key locks/unlocks all the doors, and that all the doors and boot actually open, they are controlled by microswitches and are prone to knackering and you cant open the door(s).
service history is all important, correct oil, at correct intervals. if it doesnt have full history dont bother.

if its a 150 model, the turbo's are made of chocolate so make sure its not pissing oil out etc, lift off the engine cover and physically check down the back of the engine for oil leaks.

FSH isn't a must on a Mk4 Golf diesel. I really wouldn't let it put you off if it dosn't have FSH.

Also, can't see him getting a 150 model for £2k. Well, not 1 that would be worth buying for £2k.

Also, 150 models are more prone to camshaft problems, surprised you missed that out seeing as you have advised him on lesser issue's.

unless he's going to take a tool kit with him and strip the head down before he buys it, not really worth mentioning. i'd just avoid the 150 all together as a mapped 130 is a stronger better choice.

Its something to listen out for though. Would certainly hear it, and if you didn't know any better, would think it was maybe just the diesel clatter.

But aye, 130 is the better choice.

yeah true, should rattle like a bitch under acceleration, but again could put that down to DMF or other diesel noise.

its a shame really as the 150's on full song are rapid motors, just not as reliable as the other lower power models.
