I need to put in a floor in loft( for a bedroom) span is roughly 5.2m x 4.5m . What size timbers for floor ? Also how many need to be sat ontop of the wall . Or does it need steel? If so roughly what size and what space between then ? Was thinking 8x2 sat onto off wall (x4) and 8x2 running off that. Is that upto regulations or am I miles off?

Seems more likely to be traditional if its being converted though.

Traditional in what sense? A traditional roof structure is still made with trusses

Traditional as in not using trusses.

So with rafters and purlins? Either way I doubt 8x2 would be adequate to span 5m. Just read up on the building regs as you'll require building regs approval for converting your loft space into a bedroom

I recon if they span across the 4.5m part, 47x220 beams at close centres should do.

Just had a quick look and it would appear you can span up to 5150 if the joists are 220x75 at 400 centres
