The back of my iPhone is smashed to pieces. I'd like to replace it with a genuine Apple part if possible. Is this something I can do myself? Will Apple do it? Will I void my warranty if I do it myself?

Thanks.

Just realised it's out of warranty anyway so I no longer GAF whether it voids the warranty or not.

You can do it yourself. Not sure how you get a genuine part, though. Most ebay jobs are cheap and plastic. I've changed 6 or 7 and just opted for a metal back to ensure it doesn't break again.

Piece of piss to change. Remove two screws at the bottom, slide off back.
New back on, screws back in. Done.

What do I need to look for on eBay?

I'm guessing "100% Genuine Part" means absolutely nothing?

I've bought a few "genuine" and all were cheap plastic and not glass. No idea how you'd get hold of a genuine...

Try Fazza perhaps.

I also bought one with a glowing Apple on the back, which seemed like a cool idea but wasn't in reality. At all...

I have an appointment at the Regent Street Apple Store next week to see if they can replace it.

I've read on various forums that they only charge £25, not sure if that's true.

But I'd rather pay £25 for a guaranteed genuine one than £10 for a dodgy plastic one. Plus I can get to the Apple Store easily from my office.

Isn't it a £130 flat rate replacement charge at the apple stores?

Don't see you getting a genuine part for £25 tbh!

There are genuine ones on ebay for about £18. If you get a decent £6.99 one though they're no different. The trouble is there are some dodgy cheap ones out there too.

In case anyone cares, I've just had it replaced at the Apple Store for £25.

At that price, I would have done the same.
