As above , got a quote to do two flags and a lintel for £200. I'd prefer to spend the money on a kit . I have a decent compressor. Are the kits any good? What pressure does it need to get to? How hard and messy is it ?

Big compressor. Easy to do. Dirty as buggery though. You will be covered in shit from head to toe. I make a booth when I do engine bays to stop the crap flying round the workshop

Mine is a sealey one. It's a gun with a rubber pipe that goes into the shot. Still on the first bucket of shot. Just sweep it all up. Filter it through a sieve and reuse.
Cost about £40 all in

Yeh. Am I been simple in asking what difference the outcome shot and sand are?
Gary am not hiring one prefer to buy one . Can usually buy one cheaper than renting them anyhow. Wire brush won't bring it up well enough, tried the acid but stones still wet but will see the outcome tomorrow

I bought a decent gun, is a pickup pipe type, used it for about 5mins to test it.
I might find it and sell it, was about £70-80 iirc

I used one of these once...

Was OK but took a while to strip paint but should be ok for a couple of bricks

a mate of mine has just started soda blasting parts for cars
alot better than sand or shot blasting as you can do it on painted panels for example and it wont damage it atall
yet will still strip off all the paint
plus, when it comes to engine bits theres no risk of bits of sand/shot ruining engine parts
