Gumtree's really for cash and collection only stuff.
I'd list it on eBay and get them to 'buy it now', you'll be £40 worse off but worth it for peace of mind.

If he can provide a tracking number I don't see why not.

If you sell through ebay with paypal payment you are 100% covered, where as you're not necessarily otherwise.

This. I've sold thousands of items on ebay and even with tracking and signed for etc you still get fleeced on a regular basis. Paypal and ebay don't give a flying fuck about sellers. If you're not willing to risk it just don't sell it.

I've been a buisness seller for a couple of years now on eBay and seen my fair share of scammers but never lost any money (touch wood), if you supply a tracking number PayPal will back you up as they have done me numerous times (I get at least one case a week).
It's only if they do a chargeback via their credit card company you're fucked.

But he can still say its broken or somethin? Or what I sent wasn't right etc? Might just stick to cash on collection.

Then PayPal will request he returns it and provides proof before they pay out so you're covered (unless they return a turd in a box recorded).
At least with eBay you can see their feedback and make a judgement on whether to send it or not.

This is what I'm thinking, if all you need is proof of postage he could send me anything back. But then the only thing to stop that with eBay is feedback isn't it?

If he's serious enough, get him to transfer the money straight into your bank.

Well your a whole heap luckier than me! I've yet to have a case go in my favour even when tracking numbers and links to royalfail website to show they're signature are provided.
