You could actually buy a phone with a broken screen if you wanted to do it even cheaper.

I suppose the benefit of a tracker vs a phone is that you might actually get a 'certificate' of sorts which you can evidence to your insurance company?

They are next to useless these days anyway as you can get a £20 jammer that will block GPS and GSM signals

I don't see why people are whinging about saving £40 or so when they are basically protecting thousands of pounds for a car . Also the immobilisation is a good feature if it does it in transit

Yes you could bodge it with an old phone, I'm off to crush some leaves I found in hot water and hope it tastes like tea.

To bump up this thread, my car has a Trackstar tracker fitted with "lifetime subscription" this is when the original owner paid top dollar for the package when the car was bought in 2007.

I contacted trackstar and its £147 a year to reinstate this tracker.....!

Now...this does not allow me to track on a web based way as its an old system so I am in a bit of a mad situation here....!

Do I pay the £147 for a year for tracker with old technology or do I go for a new one for around £225 or so and then spend the £149 a year (Source: http://www.stolencartracking.co.uk/sctcat/?gclid=CIrj3d--zLQCFYUf4QodGhsAyA )

Does it make £150+ difference to your insurance?

It makes no difference to insurance at all. Doing quotes on Moneysupermarket etc has no effect on the price of the premium, with or without the tracker

alot of companies wont insure performance cars without a tracker John, i found it very difficult getting quotes without one, and they ask for proof of fitting and certification.

That's fine, but if Munchie isn't seeing any difference I don't see the point.

I pay £12 a month for tracker monitor in the Porsche.

Your offer sounds like good value given the added functionality of the unit etc. who is the manufacturer of it - Trimble?

My car came with a Tracker, when I was getting insurance quotes they said that it wasn't a requirement to have one so there was no discount. I kept my money and have left it deactivated.

I personally think if someone wants your motor that badly, then they are gonna have it, Tracker or not IMO.
