As I know some of you have had dealings with this, i want your views as I'm getting mixed answers from different people.
Currently running 180bhp standard, now if I went for a stage 1 remap what figures would I be looking at (approx)?
I got a quote from a guy down in Kent Ł300 for ecu remap and rolling road print out and he said I'd be looking at between 230 - 260bhp.
Told my mate and he said No way (he has got the Octy vRS and already got his mapped etc) think he is a Know-it-all would be less.
So what would you say?

Isn't "phase 1" just an arbitrary description which would vary from mapper to mapper?

I would say the guy from Kent was being a bit optimistic tbh.
I would think circa 210bhp after a decent map from a proper tuner.

very optimistic, at best. terrible over-exagerration at worst.

And i would say your "know it all" mate probably knows more than you would like to give him credit for.
I would probably stay clear after he's started throwing out numbers with a 30bhp variation.

Isn't even 30bhp gain considered to be a lot for just a remap on a petrol

yes.
some tuners could mildy map at phase 1 and give 185bhp. others could wind the boost as high as possible for 260 and blow the car up.

Revo quote 215bhp
BBR quote 210bhp
Superchips quote 210bhp

It's supercharged and turbocharged.

Just been researching it. Didn't realise that robin
Found this which is interesting

Here's REVOs quoted figures for the 1.4TSI(180ps).
As you can see, peak torques not increased by that much at all, but it holds torque for alot longer which is exactly what you want.
Also notice that there is no change at all below 3500rpm. That is the point when the supercharger disengages and the turbo has full control. I wander why they never altered that for more low down grunt.
Another note is the before and after torque figures. This graphs shows standard torque peaking at about 260NM (thats 10NM more than VAG quoted figures). Peak torque is increased to 284NM so if you take into account the 10NM over read thats only an increase of 24NM. thats pretty reasonable, and id bet well within the limitations of the DSG.
Also its got a nice plateau of 220Hp for about 5000-7000rpm

Pretty sure APR give good results with their map on this engine...

I would stick with Revo or APR for the VAG range.

Went on to APR's site and looked up my car and this is what they are saying it'll gain.
Stage 1 vs Stock
Stage 2 vs Stock
Would it be worth in hindsight getting the Stage 2 bearing in mind it'll only be on road use and the odd Santa Pod run? If I did, would I have to upgrade clutch/gearbox? It is a Auto by the way.

Surely stage 2 involves more than just softwear changes. Intercooler, exhaust ect ect?
DSG softwear can also be changed to quicken up shift changes, launch control. The 2 clutches should be fine with that amount of torque.

Crikey, fair bit of work involved then? Wouldn't affect the car or current performance if I made those changes first would it? As for the DSG software, I didn't know things could go that far is that also another thing that Joe Blogs can do using the Vagcom/VCDS software or would it be the garage that does the mapping? Unfortuantly we don't have launch control on the VRS. That would be immense.

Ideally you'd want to be making the changes and remapping at the same time.

Only Revo maps I would ever consider is stage 1 or anything directly from the HQ. Although Revo had some problems with the 1.4's a few blew up with their maps on.
APR or Shark Performance would be my choice, they can play with the DSG mapping too. Stage 2 would require hardware changes, typically exhaust, intake and a front mount intercooler.

well on the Skoda site everyone bangs on about Shark Performance. Got a quote of their page and came back with:
Stage 1 - ECU remap to 205bhp - Ł499 inc VAT.
There's my answer.

I'd call APR HQ, speak to Evan and get him to give you the low down on their map for your car!

It maybe 499, but it will be spot on for the car, work within all the hardware limits and not cause any problems. Mikko (owns part of Shark) produces maps for most mappers in the UK and a lot in Europe too. I think he has dealings with US tuning also. Even after very many beers you can ask him a question about a turbo and he will tell you max rpm, max boost, what sort of power and torque that relates to etc
