Currently tidying a couple areas of the engine bay at the moment and i have wire wheeled any areas of surface rust back to bare metal and applied red oxide primer and the plan is to apply stonechip on top but was thinking of applying underseal ontop of the stone chip also for even more protection incase any of the stonechip ends up cracking over time.

Would this be ok or should it just be left stone chip guarded?

Yep should be grand buddy. However if its visible in the engine bay i'd be spraying it the same colour as the car as it would look unsightly when the bonnet is lifted.
