So what else can be tested with the mpi?
My supervisor is adamant its the best method for our engine work, ive forwarded him and the department manager the pricing etc.
They seem keen to do it, just unsure what else it will open doors too.

We do a lot of unit building, all from scratch, so theres a lot of welding involved and we usually send the frames that are lifted off for testing. Im assuming this would do that?

It really depends on what you weld dan and what you need to test. Thats y theres a few different processes to deal with different things. I may b wrong but if you have ut already think they would be covered to do mpi already?

It's more large scale stuff it's used for it my work, I've never seen one that you might use for say a 1/2'' pipe weld - that sort of stuff's usually tested with dye pen.

They used to do X-ray before my time, the room's still there for it. It's a mob called Axiom that get subcontracted most of our testing but the welders do some as well, the guys always talk about how loaded they are.

I'm talking big big engines though. 1000 plus bhp long running stuff. So it's big capacity but only small output.

Obviously up to you, but MPI is abit 'run of the mill' in NDT terms.
For example, all our Rolls Royce work (nuclear, submarine etc) are Dye pen. You can do Dye pen on a range of materials, something which you cant do with Mag hence suggestin Dye pen.

When you say dye pen, is that the spray it red, then spray it white stuff? We do that now, but he reckons its pretty crap. Maybe its the cheap products we use?
