As my car is on stands for the weekend, I thought I'd take the opportunity to clean out my inner arches. Started with a coat of a foamy degreaser stuff that I've got, then blasted off with the pressure washer.

The years' of dirt came off, along with whatever product was painted onto the metal sections of the arches. The rears seem way worse than the fronts, but I plan on rubbing it all off and repainting tomorrow if the weather recovers a bit.

This is how it looked before (you can see the underseal type stuff was already coming off):

Rear After:

Front After:

I'm looking to buy something which can be brushed on, then I don't have to fuss about overspray etc. Any recommendations?

Waxoyl seems to be the Halfords token offering, good choice?

As much as I mock your reply, it's really starting to annoy me now how little mileage I'm getting in it

It seems ever since my suspension refurb months ago it's been "one more thing" before feeling like the car is ready for a proper spirited drive.

I've been told 2 tenths per lap with these ones.

Plus, they're orange.

You can get that Waxoyl stuff in different colours. I wasn't sure if it would look odd if it was silver under there, and whether black was just 'safe'.

I shall sleep on it, and buy something tomorrow morning.

Went to motorfactor this morning and they had both tetroseal and waxoyl, but only spray-on tetroseal so settled with hammerite w/ waxoyl:

Oh, also only had black

Aye it was a treat to work with, I bagged the hubs up in preparation for drips but was really no need.

I got some in my hair though which made for a long and painful shower, at the expense of half a bottle of fairy liquid

The degreaser was a cheap aerosol foam one. I used the full can and binned it so not sure on the brand. I get the feeling 90% of the cleaning was done by the pressure washer though!

I was considering a skinhead

Like a knobhead I under sealed the accessible bits first, then stuck my head in the arch to do the hard bits

Yeah, my local motorfactor did smaller cans of it though. It doesn't go far (so damn thick) but my 1l can was just about enough for my arches. Got enough spare to cover some other bits or do one more coat of the rears.
