So i picked myself up a "straight edge razor" aka "cut-throat" last weekend.
Immediatly dived in thinking it cant be that hard and...... cut my face to ribbons.

Had annother go tonight, and only cut myself twice... Which isnt half bad.

Does anyone else on here shave with a straight edge/ double edge?
Did it take long to fully get the hang of it?.
Can you shave at speed yet?.

I probably should have gone from my mach3 to a double edge first.. but hay ho.

When I had one on holiday he kept pinching my face with one hand and swinging the blade around with the other . I was having visions of him hacking my head off. By far the best shaves

Went for a haircut at a Turkish barbers in Edinburgh.

He asked if I wanted a shave too, he used the cut-throat to to my sideburns and shaved my face too.

First time I've ever had it done, the guy was pretty good at it too.

Same as shep here, my barber whos been cutting my hair for 10 years uses a cut throat for my sideburns and back of my neck (i'm a hairy lad).

He stretches my skin which is where i'm guessing you went wrong.

I've always wanted a shave, but haven't bothered yet.

I usually use a beard trimmer to keep my stubble short, but recently have been shaving and have noticed it growing back within 2 days, so a proper cut throat shave would be nice.

I had a mach 3 for years. The prices of blades take the piss now. Even on ebay they have rocketed.

My dad had had the same stainless double edge razor for over 40 years and it's still going good. So I decided to buy a decent double edge myself. (Well Christmas present)
50 Wilkinson blades for about £6. Should last me over 18 months. Shaving every other day.
Could only get a pack of 4 mach 3 blades for that these days.

Took about 2 shaves to get used to the weight difference. Only had one or 2 nicks with it. Can almost shave as quick as the mach 3 now.

i dont find mach 3 any different to them cheap shitty plastic disposables . i still only get about 3 shaves max out of mach 3 then it rips my face off, i think its a load of marketing hype . Plus at least with disposables i dont have the worry of what my mrs has been shaving with it

Something like a Edwin Jagger or a Merkur with Derby or Teet blades is what you want. Badger & Blade forums are always worth a visit for advice etc
