Hi all, on the slam panel I'd plate, someone
Has scratched 'x14xe'. I assume this is the
Code of the engine fitted?

Is this the correct engine for this model &
Also, does this sound right to you guys? At
55mph it is doing 3.5k rpm & feels like it needs
Another gear!!

Advice would be great.

It should be doing 70mph @ just over 3k rpm in 5th.

Thanks bud, maybe its the 13 inch steel rims tht are fitted altering the gearing?

Perhaps a set of 14's will sort it out as it needs another gear at motorway speeds.

Fuel consumption isnt very good either

Depends what tyres are on it but yes smaller wheels will later the gearing but 15mph sounds quite extreme. Maybe someone has also changed the final drive to further improve acceleration thus dropping top end speed.

Sounds ridiculous but are you sure the gear linkage is setup and you're actually getting 5th gear?

Linkage in an old Corsa i had was setup wrong and all gears went in ok but when going for 5th it would go into 3rd again.
