Look at parts also, you fuck up one of my 308 wheels and it will cost you £100 second hand for a decent one. Ford Fiesta/Corsa is going to be half that because they have been popular cars.

Why??? I have the 1.6 tdci and put over 50k miles on it now without any problems. Nippy as well, plus its only £30 a year insurance.

My vRS is on 141,000 miles now.
Issues I had:
DMF- Was like it when I bought it, so had it replaced.
Temp sensor: Spent £100 on sensors, to find a wire near the radiator was snagged 
That is it really. Other than that, totally reliable, although even with the temp sensor problem, it still worked absolutely fine.

I'll be following LiveLee's steps and getting an XType estate when my Megane estate's electrics finally let go.
I wouldnt recommend anything Renault, it just feels like its going to fall apart whenever you get in it, although it's a nice smooth ride and even the 68bhp 1.5 diesel in my estate is reasonable. It gets 60mpg (on the computer anyway)  It might be cheap but there's a reason for it

Had a clio dci 100 and it was by far the cheapest car ive ran. Nothing went wrong with it either.

I have looked at mk2 octavias as have a mk1 vrs at present. Could possibly get a sport which look nice as well.
But I think the sensible option may ly elsewhere as need something I'm not going to play with. I've not done much to the vrs at present but done enough to make it less comfy and spent £££s.

Failure rate of turbos puts me off, we supply at least 2 a week as a branch and no matter hat you do, they just fail randomly. Obviously not every car will have the failure I guess but it's enough to put me off them.
It's a badly designed engine, Peugeot released a bulletin outlining a turbo replacement procedure which is really long winded (measuring oil flow etc) because it's such a common issue.

Especially if you get a sport as the styling kit and body coloured bits that would otherwise be chrome really help to de-granddad the car.

How about a Leon TDi; has 150BHP which is pretty quick and gets 50MPG.
I got mine last sept for sub £3K with 60K on at the time; 15K later its not missed a beat and only cost me a service in that time

I'm 25 and have wanted one for a couple of years (estate version), I wouldn't let the 'image' put you off. Fact is they are generally owned by older people who have a bit more wedge to put into getting things fixed, so they will have fewer problems and wont have had the arse ragged off them

Running wise I had the clutch replaced at 135,000 miles and around 165,000 all the wheel bearings went within a 1000 miles one another - had a few suspension bushes and links replaced at around the same time as the bearings but all in for a car that's now done 175k, running costs have been cheap.

I would say the Clio dCi is a decent little motor, don't get a Megane dCi of the same era though, unless you own a wetsuit.
Difference with the Clio compared to a few cars said is that for 2k you can get a really well looked after model on low mileage, I found it quite difficult to find any 80bhp or 100bhp ones though, there is tons of 65bhp ones around which would probably be more then enough.
