Would you buy the house if offered to you for half it's market value and live in it for a minimum period?

I wouldn't.

This would have been my second point. They're usually in shit holes living next to scum.

I lived a few minutes from a council estate for over 20 years.
It's still a shit hole and an undesirable area.

Family friend from said estate wanted to utilise her RTB on her 3 bed that her and her son live in. She wanted to rent it out and live elsewhere

been to see the mortgage advisor today we will be borrowing 80k to cover our fees and hopefully going for a 25yr term with a fixed for 5 yrs rate of 3.09% which I thought was very good as looking at a non fixed worked out to be only 0.1% less o about £4 a month cheaper

You would have been crazy to go with the non-fixed deal.

Do you have any plans for the house now that you will be owning it?

3.09% is really high for 50% LTV is it not? But over 25 years that is nothing a month anyway.

john lowest we could get was about 2.79% but the setup fee was a lot higher by nearly 1k the one we are looking at via the abbey was £184 setup so what we would of saved over the 5 yrs going for the lower fixed rate isn't much more than going for the 3.09 with the lower setup fee when added together plus its another 1k to find ontop of stamp duty solicitors wills etc etc etc
