You want German but you've pretty much ruled out everything except VAG cars by specifying FWD.. And are HID's really a deal breaker?

Xenons are needed to show your neighbours you've bought a premium motor.

My mate has worked for VW for the past 4-5years. The above is also pretty much his opinion of DSG. Nothing but problems with them, VW gear boxes in general and having previously worked at Peugeot says the myth that VAG cars are reliable and well built is simply not true.
Likewise - My dad has owned 3 Golfs (Mk3 & 2 Mk4's) and a Touran (with DSG) all had problems/recalls for silly little things. Bushes, electrics etc.
Certainly not the bullet proof cars people think they are.

Says the one who retrofitted bulbs to make him look like he had xenons
On a serious note xenons are a must for me as they make night driving so much better which I assume is why ben did it and not for the statement he made in the thread

Renault clios came with Xenons as standard nearly 15 years ago, can't belive they still charge extra for these on 'premium motors'

Christ almighty, bet you're fun at parties.
It was clearly a joke that went straight over your head. My st3 had bi-xenons and that is most definitely not a premium vehicle.
gav, you put stickers on your car. Stickers are for merlin albums and for placing on female nipples.

That is complete bullshit. TFSI is a great engine, some are a bit noisy but that is just their nature.
For your requirements you should be able to get a nice low mileage Mk5 Golf GTi Edition 30, or potentially a Mk6 GTi.

The only downside with the TFSI engines are that they are bloody dirty due to the way they run. Kinda like a diesel so they coke up pretty bad which can clog up the injectors. They're noisey because of the amount of pressure in the fuel rail, upto 180psi iirc. Great tuning potential on them as long as it's mated with the bigger K04 turbo. Mine is running 380bhp/355lbft. The clutch is a weak point tho so anything over standard power then 99% of them will need upgraded. As for the DSG box then it's got a bit of a mind of its own I've been told, changing up/down at the wrong times etc. They are DSG maps available for them now tho which makes them so much better.
For 10k you'd get a great facelift mk2 Cupra with stage 2+ mods
