I've given up with Euros in cash the last couple of times I've been, just do everything on my Nationwide Select Credit Card that gives a good rate and 0% commission. When I was in Germany last time I got €20 out of a hole in the wall for 'shrapnel' use.

My Mum used one last year in Marbella after having cash stolen the year prior.
It was cloned or something and someone took all the money out
I'd rather have cash to be honest.

As (ka)pow says, having a credit card abroad really helps. you seem sensible enough to have one!

As cole said. Wtf do you need that for?
Also I have had one from Thomas cook before. When you go to get your currency they put it on a card for you. Use it in ATM's and can use it like a normal debit card too in chip and pin machines. If it gets cloned or stolen all your money's insured. Win win

Definitely makes sense to take a credit card... Apply for one with your bank, might only have a £500 limit but you might need it if you be to pay for a local doctor or something before you claim it back. That, or like Sean and I did once, want to spend the entire amount you changed into euros in one bar in Cannes

I may have smoked drugs, but I've never actually ever sold them contrary to popular belief. Plenty other people on here do sell them though.

Have you no normal bank debit card you can use?
I generally take 50 quid or so in local for some food and a bus fare when we land but everything else comes out the cash machine over there.
Travelex do cards although not sure on the limit, £40k might be a bit much. Not sure.
Also worth watching the rate, its probably done most of its climbing now but you never know. I'd be half temped to do a few grand a week to mitigate the fluctuations and at least you'll get the average of all the rates until you travel, not potentially lose a grand because it fell back to 2014 levels.
