Just looking for ideas at the moment, also whats a good mini forum to look for cars for sale?
Up to £10k Although nearer £5-6k would be bestest

Way better and more original. If they did a sirion-R I might consider one myself.

I nearly purchased a clubman cooper SD a few years ago. Drove like a BMW, felt solid and extremely well made, lots of options and was a refined drive too.
I'd deffo have one, prefer the previous generation though new one looks a bit ill proportioned

£5-6k I'd be going for a top notch R53 JCW
£8-10k I'd be going for an early R56 JCW
I use MiniTorque forum... but it's pretty awful.

I know a bit now as I bought one a couple of weeks ago for the wife.
Ended up with a 60 reg cooper. I was looking for something with a nice spec and a few options. Got xenons, digi climate, auto lights/wipers and full mini service history. It has 58k miles and I gave £5550 for it from a trader (had it up for £6k).
Most were sold with the TLC pack from the factory which means all servicing has been taken care of. They seem to be pretty reliable with no major faults to keep an eye out for.
I was considering a cooper or cooper s. I was a little put off by the cooper S in that price range, as some have had turbo, clutch, timing chain (search mini death rattle) replacements, which are quite pricey.
It's great to drive. I'm really impressed with it!

I think they are lovely to look at, okay to drive, the early ones were so expensive they are all have a shit spec, but they are bone shatteringly uncomfortable.

Frequently drive a '63 plate Cooper D convertible at work. Bit rattly and like has been said, uncomfortable too on a long run. Location of the electric windows button switch takes some getting used to.
Sport mode makes it shift mind. Feels rapid for 109 bhp or what ever the D is.

I've driven a Mini One, 1.6 and thought that was pretty nippy. Nice inside too.

First thing I did was coilovers and ditching the run-flats! Drives really nice now, although the gearbox is awful.
