you can also change your contract with them during an existing one, which is useful. (Not sure if other networks offer this...)

I used to work in the customer services division for o2 and Vodafone ...
We got alot of sh*t from people who didnt read their manuals properly...
o2 is a good company, but if i was you, T-Mobile are the best network providers @ the mo

My O2 update
I've been trying on the phone for 6 days to order a T610 and they always take some of my details wrongly and then the order gets cancelled!
I ordered online today after my 3rd order didn't go through...
i'm still waiting for an email to confirm its worked this time.
My advice is order online and save the hell i'm having.
7 phone calls today between sales(free)and customer svs(50p per min)

In my experience O2 are complete incompetant idiots who's customer service is utter rubbish...
...I wanted to Order a Nokia 6100, two days later it had dropped £100 in price, next day it came with a free camera, so I'm glad I waited.
Anyway, I phone up, speak to some lad whos cummincation skills were awful, tool my details, got the phone wrong - wrong model until I corrected him twice, and my post code wrong too. He forgot to tell me I was signing up for a 12 month contract.
This phone never arrived, I didn't even get an O2 order number from him, no confirmation emails.
I then phone up to check it did go thru - O2 can t find my records, so they say "oh don't worry, it wont come cos theres no order number"
I order antoehr phne with a nice lady, no problems. then, two sets of of order confirmations come thru. I get two phones. I immediatedly send one back. 28 days later I get a refund, they took the money the same day I ordered it.
I then notice I cant get into my account and need a password reset, I can't see my bills without it.
O2 then charge me line rental for two months on the phone i immediately send back - unopened.
It takes me two 20 mintues calls to O2 to sort it out, one fax, one very angry email and a few weeks wait. The phone calls cost me £10 which I made them refund me for. I got passed from the call centre to custoner services and visa versa as nobody was capable of helping me and there comupter systems were always slow and could never find my records.
Soon as my 12 months is up Im leaving, and am never using O2 again.
Customer services is 50p aminute, even when its their problem your trying to fix.
Absolutely useless company.

I'd aslso advise order online, you cut out the monkey in the cal centres. I sent a fax to a girl there to prove they've debited me for two phones - as they have no record!! the fax machine wasn't turned on for 6 hours and weh it was the girls there didn't know who the FAO person was!!
Their computer systems are utter rubbish, can never find you, everything is online, which is ok, so long as the website is working!
Im on Orange and on a free no monthly fee contract, glad i kept it. when i phone orange its free, they know me immediately and have my details on screen atraight away, never had any problems with them at all - apart from the fact that they can't match O2 online tarrifs - otherwise I'd have stayed - wish I had now.

Update, Day 8...
I'm on my 5th order now!
Thet took down my wrong email address and so couldn't email me to tell me that my bank had put a security block on my card and i had to phone my bank to sort it out.
JESUS!!!!!
You think they'd phone me or the bank would phone...
I ordered another phone about dinner time but am still waiting for conformation...
I'll not hold my breath.
Thats the 3rd time the bank has done this to me so i'm thinking of takng my money elsewhere.
I'm almost pulling my hair out now!
FCUKWITS!
