sod that and go for the 1.6, much faster on the road than the 1.4's. 0-60 in 9 seconds.

1.6 16v - 109/106BHP - 120mph

greasemonkey the 1.4 and 1.6 16v sports not gsi are all most the same in performance ive had 1.4 an now got 1.6 an they are the same even raced one when i had 1.4 and m8 did not pull away from me dont get me wrong could not win but very close

pre-ecotec gsi is the fastest with 110 bhp 0-60 9 secs top speed 121

this would leave the 1.4 16v

1.6 16v is faster than the 1.4, by a lot, the 1.4 is gutless when it comes to torque.

1.6 (C16XE) has 109bhp, 8.9 0-60, 121mph
1.6 (X16XE) has 106bhp, 9.5, 119mph
1.4 16v, (X14XE) has 90bhp, 10.5 0-60 and 112mph top end.

1.6 Sport wont cain it, but it will beat it and is much more driveable.

PS, your mate must have been driving it like a women

um daimo read my post i said that the 1.6 wont wont cain the 1.4 they are close though and i said the 1.4 will not beat the 1.6 but it will keep up with it an my mate is madder than me on the road so dont think he would drive like a women

and any way ive covered 50000 miles in a 1.4 16v and done 3.5k in a new 1.6 16v an there is hardly any difference i should no ive had both

and why is you all worrying about 0-60 times they are a crap way of measuring peformance, 1.5 secs on the road is like half a car length
its nothing, 50-90 time is where you get true measure of the car

i disagree, if you drive some low powered cars for a while you'll realize its quite torquey.mine will pull in any gear with no throttle

WTF?!? I managed 0-60 in 8.7 seconds, i feel this is good enough to thrash the hell out of any 1.4, which i have done manytimes. The 1.4 has a fairly good peak power figure, but when it comes to pure pulling power torque, its quite weak. It has different power and torque bands, and is not as driveable as the 1.6. You are right in saying that 0-60 is a crap measure of a cars performance, and 50-90 for example, the 1.6 would leave the 1.4 in the dust mate.

agreed

there is not a noticeable difference unless you on the road.

i had a 1.4 8v

and a later gsi

the gsi wud spin in second and wud beat vtr's
the 8v wud be just behind the vtr
