either stall it, block the air intake, or hit it with a big stick.

diesel has a much lower ignition temperature so its being ignighted just by the temperature in the cylinders. so it will still seem like its running. Tell ya mum shes a muppet.

yeah they rang the AA, mum is a bit upset, they been having a hard time with a few things lately, so TBH I aint suprised it slipped her mind.
Just told her to stop cryin & ill re-build the engine if I have to myself, I just need to know what sort of damage (if any) may be caused by this.
They said it was blowing out loads of white smoke, but I know this will be the diesel due to the oil in it (hopefully)
I know I'll need to flush the entire fuel syste,. drain the tank & clean the carbs, what about possible head damage / seals / valves??

found this if any help...
BUT, BUT, the diesel tends to separate out in a (carb)float chamber, and under high demand (ie high revs full throttle) you sometimes got too much diesel = loss of power and huge volumes of white smoke. Less of a problem on injected cars where fuel is constantly swirling in tank. But even on injected cars, at anything above around 4,500 rpm the point was reached where the diesel could not burn quickly enough, again = huge white smokeout.
At the point where the diesel ceased to burn completely a high proportion of it was forced down past the rings into the sump, so we saw oil levels rising and oil dilution occuring. At this point the experiments were curtailed, but the inside of the engines involved were spotlessly clean !
