Hiya guys,
Im due to start my lessons next month, but after chatting 2 a few mates they've all said that i should do my intensive.
I've never really driven before, so i was wondering if anyof you had feedback on the intensive course.....
Lessons or intensive? I was kinda thinking about doing 5/10 lessons and doing my intensive....
Help!!!

Take a few lessons first so you get to know the basics me dads an instructor and he doesnt really rate intensives- to much to quickly!!!!

My dad won't take me out, Neds refusing (i think its because he values his life too much!) so im trying to persuade mates...

I spend 8 months driving with my dad before I eventually got round to taking lessons. had 7 passed first time with no minors

If you get a good teacher lessons would be suffice, use word of mouth to find out who is good or not

Intensives are great if your really quick at picking up new stuff, and putting it into practice. Some people also just find driving hard, but you wont know that till you try it... which'll be a bit late when youve just spent about £300 on an intensive course. Do what i did: got my dad to take me on a few car parks/private roads to learn how to change gear/ pull away/stop etc. then when your allright at that, have lessons twice a week, an hour and a half at a time.
I passed in 4 months, which is actually quite quick compared to most of my mates... oh and a month of that was waiting for a re-test  .

err... perhaps things are different now adays or its just scotland is empty - but its rare to get 0 minors down here 
Vibs does talk sense though - get your dad to take you down to the trading estate and just practice clutch control!
whats the point of paying money for lessons when you could be doing it on private land for free?
The first lessons will be stuff like clutch control - but if you can already do it, he'll skip it.

I can 'legally' start learning on Jan 21st, but i've already learned how to drive by going on industrail estates with my mum or dad, i've also learned all the rules of the roads over the last year on my scooter, so i'm hoping that i wont need too many lessons once i'm 17

All I did was 10 normal lessons & then my test, its easy enough to pick things up!

i went for intensive about this time last year.......
20 lessons in three weeks including two on the day of my test, cost me £418, passed first time with 7 minors, and no previous experience.......

yeh but boyrac3r when you think about it - its just miles and miles of fields up there... who needs to check their mirrors when they won't see another car or human for another day or two...
Basically if you don't hit any sheep you pass.

My dads just become an examiner in Kingsheath after being a driving instructor for 9 years and he told me it is possible to pass your test without any minors, I only got 7 and they were just for use of mirrors

What's strange about it, I know loads of people who've passed with first time with 0 minors  and full marks on the theory test.
Maybe we're better drivers up here (except me, I got 7 minors on 2nd test)

My Dad is an instructor, the way an intensice course works is that you book a test, the test will usually be in say 2 months time, you wait for 6 weeks then do all of your driving in the last 2 weeks, its pointless because in them 6 weeks you could have been having 4 lessons per week and if you're not gonna be ready for your test with an intensive its pointless

Also about the 0 minors thing, my Dad has been instructing for 20 years, he also has friends who are examiners, 0 minors in this area has only been done like once or twice in 20 years, i got only 1 minor and thats bloody rare. The testing procedure might be less strict in scotland
