started my car this morning
1.4 8v spi
60k on the clock
and drivers side of the engine was ticking
i couldnt see if it was from top of the bottom of engine.
i was just thinking will this be the cam or cam lifters? because its cold?
also whose alternator make a kinda soft whining noise mine been doing it for couple of months "not the drivebelt" sounds like the beaing maybee

Dont know what it is, but i've had only 1 problem with my 14 8V
Normally you'll hear some ticking sound.
1 time I've reached my limitter
The ticking wass verry loud => what I did turn of engine and start => problem solved

it could be that ur oil needs changing, as its probably not pure enough to get pumped through from 1st thing

Mine ticks on cold startup.
Something to do with the automatic choke or whatever its called. When its cold and the engine runs at about 1100rpm for a few minutes before dropping to idle about 900rpm. Stops ticking then. Get a slight whirring too from something that puts more air into the mixture for this duration i think.

More fuel is added through the ecu/injectors using temperature info from the coolent temperature sensor.

ah right cheers
oil is less than 6 month old and its good stuff
i know that my cams make a slight tiking noise but thats to be expected
this just seemed a little louder than normal
