i get this little whine where the pitch increases when i increase the rev.
Only works when my headunit is in, and amp is on.
i spent about 5mins driving to uni with the HU vol. set to 0, and listenin to the whine sounded kinda cool..

I used to get this on my SXi, sounded sweet with an induction kit in really cool damp weather, never knew what it was, never cared as the car was brand new

it could be your alternator belt. There should be a bolt holding the spindle on, give it a spray with WD40 and see if the squeal goes.

Hi there.
Easy way to find out if its your fan belt or any other belt for that matter, with engine running at idle or at the rpm that make the noise worst, just pour small amount of water onto the belt.
If the noise stops instantly its that belt.
Can be tryed on any belts.
Belt will need changing if this works but will be fine if it doesnt wok.

cheers for info guys, "ado" i will try wat u said, but i think this method will only tell me if its the belt that needs changing not the tensioner or bearings?? the noise does sound to be comming from near the alternator, if it is the alternator will i have to replace it??

IntaCepta, yours sounds like interference from the alternator. Try re-wiring your amp so the speaker cables and RCA leads are away from the power cable.

plus the cables are as furthest they can be.
