yes i have an alpine in the wifes golf and had to run a fused supply from the battery, they specify a certain gauge i think and the standard radio loom power cable is a bit light for the amp's needed to power the head unit amp.

The new alpine 's (9812) needs to be connected directly to the car battery because the internal wiring loom is not powerful enough!

it's either that or you haven't earthed it well enough.
i would recommend fitting the same thickness wire to earth the unit as you use to power it from the battery.
your head unit is probably going out on it's internal overload try a larger feed wire m8 just make sure to fuse it near the battery and pass it through the bulkhead via rubber grommets .

its a load of bollocks.
I was alking to some ice people at a local shop and they say that the actual power output from the unit is like 4 x 23w RMS, the 4 x 60 is peak.
Thus the current draw from the unit is well below the amount necessary for a direct battery connection. i dont thnik mine has one and its perfect, never really looked tho.

my alpine was previously fitted in my primera, the power cable was less than 1mm squared. i'm sorry but there's noway i would connect that to power a head unit with a built in amp. it's a fire risk to start with if the wrong sized fuse was fitted by mistake, never mind powering the head unit.
what size cable is the feed for the head unit in a corsa btw?
