if you want it magnet out, the you need a free air sub, otherwise it dont work 
But look up speaker box building on google, there are a number of programs out that you input data and it will tell you the size of the box to build

Sub doesnt have to be free air to be mounted arse out. It's still working with an enclosure, just back to front. Remember when mounting a sub with the magnet out, the box doesnt have to be as big, cos the displacement volume of the basket/magnet etc. isnt inside the box.

what sub is it? I'd suggest phoning the manufacturer or UK distributor of the brand of sub.

yeah, ring the supplier or manufacture as you should know the makers surgested enclosure size. the all i`d say is if you are using the sub with the magnet sticking out then line the box with some wadding because when i have used a sub like this in a install i have found them harsher without the wadding.
