You can only use your no claims on one car, i tried it before i got rid of my Nova, had to leave it sat with no insurance whilst i sold it.

Its very unlikely that you'll get the no claims on both cars. Even if you do its still a bit iffy if its your car and your dad is insuring it. The best you might do is an introductory policy which gives credit for driving other things and may get you a small discount to start off a new policy.

Endsleigh and Halifax both do these IIRC.

by law yu can use them once officially. some firms will do a policy for 8 wheels with a discount on the 2nd car, but only if you're with them.

go to any UKI Partnership scheme (bmw, mini, renault, peugot, tvr, leeds utd, barclay card, ats euromaster and many others) and ask yer mum to make the call. they will "mirror" dad's NCD into her name regardless of who he's with, and then you can be added. bear in mind the level of cover within a policy differs so prices will vary even though the underwriters and call centre are the same.

also bear in mind you'll acrue no NCD in your own right so it's a false economy, plus if the car is in your name they can't insure it - the V5 MUST be in his or her name for one of them to cover it legal requirement of "insurable interest").

btw, if you're under 21 and license under a year, get your pass plus sorted asap - 20% discount not to be sniffed at if it's a 2k policy (£400 saving mate).

Ian's right btw - except it's not just iffy - it's illegal and will invalidate a policy (an IN10 and 10 points for you if you pranged it).

just ask for a TAV (temporary additional vehicle) in these circumstances.

All UKI policies allow this for a month at a time, a maximum of 3 months in a policy year.
