Hi.
I stopped at the shops on my way home from work tonight and 5 mins later started the car to continue going home and I now have the battery light staying on when the engine is running. Not only that but my hand brake warning light is remaining on too even though the hand brake is off. Are these related?
I have checked the drive belt and that is fine (I think it was the drive belt, it was the belt you can see on the left hand side below the air filter box). I have a '94 Corsa 1.5D if that helps with anyone replying.
I would really like if anyone has any ideas to reply as if it is simple to fix I can try tomorrow myself to do it, otherwise I will ring up my local garage tomorrow afternoon and will have to take half a day on Monday to have it repaired.
Thanks for your help in advance.

firstly check you'r brake fluid level, if thats low, that will explain you'r h/brake light being on.
if you are not low on brake fluid, then i expect that the lights on together may be related.
as for the battery, i am unsure

your alternators probably on its way out! thats what the battery light comes on for, warning that your alternators fooked! have it checked out mate! your battery should be 12v without engine running, engine running it should have more voltsge through it, not sure on exact figure but presume around 13.5-14v, if it aint your alternator aint charging your battery!
think im right there anyhow

im almost sure if ure battery light is on all the time it is warning u that it isnt bein charged which would point the finger towards the alternator.
most garages do free alternator and battery checks so id get ureself there before ure battery goes flat

I would check the voltage but can't get a voltmeter now til Monday at work. I'll have to book it into the garage then for them to look at. Any idea how much a new alternator is if I do happen to need a new one?

I could be wrong here but off the top of my head I think they are about £60-70 for a brand new one, you usually have to give your old one back too. Just think yourself lucky you dont have air con and pas cos then its a right sod to change
