Is it more effective to do longer sets of smaller weights or shorter sets with heavier weights?

What is the differnce between doing either?

If you doo lots of weights and less reps you will be building muscle.

Less weight and more reps is for toning

Or you could use more weight less reps to build muscle, and use your diet and CV for the looking good part.

If ya wanna build muscle, Big weights...... do a few reps then rest, then do lots of reps on a really light weight. then back to the heavy weights and do the process again. but make sure you hhave high protine in your diet.
The process is called Ripping, the largger weights build the muscle up and the smaller weights allow the blood to return to the muscle.

^^ ignore the last sentance, complete bollokx

So when you lift big weights the blood goes away from the muscle does it? wait till Si sees this.

my explanation isnt the best not in the slightest, what i mean to say is that it moves the muscle and allows the blood to be pumped through more freely, It makes sence in my head........ leave me alone!

Ive trained using pyramid systems, for example ive done a warm up set then 3 heavy sets then a light set to finish, and the light set is by far the hardest.

Spotted
Hypertrothy is achieved by doing 20 rep squats etc gets the blood pumping to the muscle affected expanding them int he process. Also helps deep breathing under heavy weights, but thats nothing to do with getting ripped . Rips the sheding of bodyfat to leave all the muscle strads
